Our Stoey:

It began with our son.

Bath time was never simple. His skin reacted to almost every soap or cream we tried. It was never about the water. It was the moment any product touched his skin. Like many parents, we reached for brands labeled “gentle” and “for sensitive skin.” We tried them all. Some seemed to help briefly. Others did nothing. A few quietly made things worse.

As new parents, the worry grew. We began reading ingredient labels closely, searching for simpler formulas and fewer additives. Even then, his skin remained reactive. As the years passed and the irritation continued, we knew we had to look beyond what was on store shelves.

That search led us back to nature and to Africa.

Growing up, I watched my grandmother prepare native herbal creams and soaps using ingredients derived from plants she trusted and had used for generations. Remembering this, I began researching African herbal ingredients traditionally used to support sensitive skin.

After traveling to Africa, I brought some of these ingredients back with me to the United States and made our first homemade bar of soap. There was no branding. No bright packaging. No promises. Just a quiet moment when I handed it to my wife and said, “Try this for him.”

The soap was made the same way African herbal soaps have been made for generations, with natural herbal ingredients traditionally used for cleansing. She was hesitant, understandably. We agreed to take it slow. No rush. No big expectations. Just hope.

The difference was subtle but noticeable. The lather felt softer. Clean, but not harsh. After a few days, bath time became easier. After a few weeks, his skin looked calmer. Not perfect, but more comfortable. More balanced. Better than anything we had tried before.

Encouraged, we continued our research and turned our focus to one of Africa’s most valued trees, the Garcinia kola plant, also known as bitter kola. Studying its roots, stem, leaves, and fruit, we learned how widely it has been used in traditional African herbal practices. We carefully incorporated Garcinia kola extract and other proprietary ingredients into our original formula.

That formula became the foundation of the soap we offer today for all skin types.
